Veterans Day Response
The story about Anthony and the experience that he had during the holocaust genocide was very sad. It talks about his many different diary writings that he wrote during those times. He was one of 350 American soldiers that were held at Berga an der Elster, a concentration camp used by the Nazis. He talks about his horrible and bad times that he had there. Like the way they would treat the Americans, or the minuscule amounts of food made out of things like sawdust that they would get to eat. He also tells us about how when he and the rest of the soldiers were being released that they had to sign a document saying that they wouldn't tell anyone about anything that they went through. This story is terribly sad and depressing but it's good that he finally has had the opportunity to tell people. I respect him for never telling anyone. Especially when his dad was calling him a coward I feel like it would be very difficult for him to not have given his dad a reason why he wasn't a coward. If I had been in that position I would have told my story. I would have made sure people knew what I went through. I also thought it was incredible how he took the names of everyone who died. It seems like he was very brave and never gave up.
I agree with you Acevedo was very brave, especially for keeping a log and saving the name of all who had died. It would be hard to keep my mouth shut and hear my father call me a coward but Acevedo got through it and is a hero.
ReplyDeleteI don't even think people who are held captive in wars these days have to eat the so called food this veteran had to endure. It would have been hard for me to not rub what happened in my dad's face if he called me a coward after one of the most horrific experiences of my life.
