Music

When someone asks me what my musical preferences are, it is one of the most difficult questions for me to answer. I have always enjoyed almost every different kind of music. Now, I realize that this is a general statement and it seems almost like a cop out. However, it really isn't. I used to be in a band with a couple of my friends. We played many shows and had two cd's that we put out before we broke up. During those couple of years that we played together I took many lessons and learned many different things. I now understand the creation of music. What I mean is, I understand how difficult it is to write music, and to play music, and to make everything sound perfect. But, I also understand the amazing feeling one can receive when they are expressing themselves through music. Music is an amazing thing, and I truly do enjoy, or at the very least appreciate, every different kind of music. However, I most often listen to a general rock type of music, or what could be considered alternative. Mostly though, it just depends on the kind of mood I am in that day. My musical selection explores every boundary of music.

I feel like I have no choice but to put a video of the most amazing female artist on the planet :)

speaking the unspeakable

The crisis in Darfur, has become one of the worst conflicts we know of today. The country is going through all sorts of violence. As a result, thousands have died, and millions of civilians have been forced to move their houses. It is amazing that the conflict is still going. I think it deserves more international attention. This is why it is important to speak the unspeakable.

My opinion on art

After reading the story, my opinion on the purpose of art really hasn't changed. I feel as though art should not be perceived only as entertainment. However art can be very entertaining, I am not saying that it can't. I really feel that art is for the purpose of expression. There are so many different forms of art as well. Being whatever it is, art is art. Someone who expresses themselves through art can be doing it for many different reasons, however it is not arguable that they aren't expressing themselves. Through the expression of art one can release emotions, or stress, or anything that they need to release. Art is the easiest way to get a point across. At the same time, it is also about perception. All art doesn't have to be interpreted the way the artist meant for it to be. Maybe even that was the point of the artwork, was for people to try to perceive it how they see fit.

Theo Jansen

Theo Jansen is from the Netherlands. He is a kinetic sculptor. With the help of engineering, he creates a type of moving body that is called the Anamari. It is made up of a bunch of tubes and plastic that give the body a different type of movement. Depending on the wind the "animals" move around and walk along the beaches.

He is very dedicated to his work. He refers to them as animals and gives them all names. He is very passionate. I find his work very interesting. I thinks it's crazy how someone can become so passionate about something like this. However it is not only a science, it is an art. The things that he creates and works with are very complicated. The structures are very difficult. The complexity of his work is what in my opinion makes the things he does art.

I believe the purpose of art is for expression and to release emotion. Art is a way to let go of feelings and emotions that you have bottled up or don't want to bottle up. Or art is a way of showing off things you may believe in or the way you feel about things. In general art is just a way of expression

Veterans Day Response

The story about Anthony and the experience that he had during the holocaust genocide was very sad. It talks about his many different diary writings that he wrote during those times. He was one of 350 American soldiers that were held at Berga an der Elster, a concentration camp used by the Nazis. He talks about his horrible and bad times that he had there. Like the way they would treat the Americans, or the minuscule amounts of food made out of things like sawdust that they would get to eat. He also tells us about how when he and the rest of the soldiers were being released that they had to sign a document saying that they wouldn't tell anyone about anything that they went through. This story is terribly sad and depressing but it's good that he finally has had the opportunity to tell people. I respect him for never telling anyone. Especially when his dad was calling him a coward I feel like it would be very difficult for him to not have given his dad a reason why he wasn't a coward. If I had been in that position I would have told my story. I would have made sure people knew what I went through. I also thought it was incredible how he took the names of everyone who died. It seems like he was very brave and never gave up.

Results of the Election

After many long hard months, weeks, and days of campaigning, the election is finally over. Barack Obama, our new president. It's hard to not feel disappointed myself. I was a strong McCain supporter who believed in almost everything that he believed in. It's hard not to feel like all my support and all my time spent voting and debating was a waste of time. But that is the fun of politics. Someone always has to lose, as well as their supporters. So like McCain said after the election results were in, we must now all come together and support our president. At first, it was impossible for me to not be extremely upset. However, after watching McCain's speech, after hearing how he accepted the loss and now planned on supporting his new president in every step that he takes, I realize i must now respect the fact that Obama is my new president. I must accept the changes that he is going to make, and embrace them. It is not difficult for me to accept new and different things. I have never been a person that is against change. But, after all this hard work on many many peoples parts, it's difficult to not be a little disappointed. Obama now has a hard and rough road in front of him. He has taken over a country that has a lot of expectations from him. Hopefully he can live up to everything that he has promised.

Woodhaven Michigan

Woodhaven Michigan, the place I reside,
Very simple it is, to get your food fried.
McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, and Arbys,
Plenty of fast food for when you are starving.

Many small neighborhoods to build a small family,
And many small corner stores to buy things like candy,
The people are friendly, the grass is green.
The trees are tall, the lakes are clean

Woodhaven Michigan, the place I reside,
Come and visit one day, you'll be satisfied.
